They say that more than ninety percent of well paying senior-level jobs are not posted on the Internet. On top of this, consider that the most popular Canadian job board boasts that they have over 3 million candidates. Realistically, how can you expect to be found in such a massive pool of job seekers?

In 2010, don’t let your network stagnate. Forget about passively searching job boards. Pick up the phone and start making the connections you need to succeed. Continually strive to connect with new people who are meaningful in your career. Target senior-level corporate decision makers. Instead of being a passive bystander, add value to your new contacts’ lives. As you nurture these relationships, actively volunteer your talents to their benefit. In addition to gaining great satisfaction, you’ll be featuring your expertise.

Jump start your online presence in 2010 so recruiters can find you. These days, top recruiters regularly Google senior-level candidates before inviting them into an interview. Make sure that you can be found on appropriate social networking sites. And, if you want to approach companies and people who are in a position to retain you, consider creating distinctive, technology-friendly marketing collateral such as networking e-letters, electronic presentations, and online profiles.
