Literally Everyone. Just Be Kind.

“You know who’s going through a lot right now? Literally everyone. Just be kind.”
That line stopped me in my tracks. I saw it in a meme online—just a simple, quiet reminder. But oh, how it resonated. Maybe it hits home for you, too.
Because let’s be honest—behind every smile, every social media post, every polite conversation, there’s often a hidden story. People are carrying more than we know.
I know I have.
I’ve lived a full and meaningful life, one filled with love, growth, leadership, and purpose. I founded Career Professionals of Canada with the belief that we can lift others up through care and community. I’ve always been driven by the idea that kindness is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Especially now.
I’m retired, grateful, and grounded. Most days, I am at peace. Yet, even at this stage of life, I still have challenges: memories that ache, health concerns, guilt about the past, worries about the future of our world, moments when I feel overwhelmed. If I’m feeling that way, I know others are, too.
We all face challenges that don’t show up on the outside. The parent managing health issues. The acquaintance quietly struggling with money problems. The newcomer adjusting to a new country. The young person trying to find their place in the world. The friend smiling through heartbreak. The neighbour carrying grief. The caregiver who is quietly exhausted. The professional unsure of their next step.
Every one of us is navigating something.
And that’s why kindness is everything.
Kindness doesn’t mean fixing someone’s problems. It’s not about having the right words or grand gestures. It’s often as simple as pausing before we judge. Softening our tone. Smiling at a stranger. Listening, truly listening. Giving grace.
When we lead with compassion, we create a ripple effect. We help people feel seen. We remind them they’re not alone. We make space for healing and hope.
Kindness has always been a part of who I am. But in these uncertain times, I’ve come to see it not just as a value—but as a daily choice. A quiet act of courage. A purposeful gift.
So here’s my gentle reminder to you, as I remind myself:
You never know what someone else is going through.
Be kind. Always.
With purposeful kindness and heartfelt gratitude,
Sharon
